10 years since Uni

mental.

Last night did a gig at Westminster Student Uni (shout to Ray and Robin for sorting it out) and dawned on me that this summer it’s 10 years since I graduated. Nuts.

After 5 years of pretty much bumming around, shitty temping jobs, building sites and a lot of credit card fueled travel I found my feet in 2005 and the rest, as they say, is everything that has happened since.

Last night got to share the billing with David J. Now David I’m proud to say is now a good friend of mine. We met in 2006 and toured together on ‘Exposed’ for Apple & Snakes and I consider him one of my better friends in this big beast of a capital city. A big man with a big heart and real talent. One of those people who you remember the first time you saw him live. For me it’s not even about the mastery of flow and delivery. It’s the slice of a personality you get each time he’s on stage that is more than the sum of it’s parts. Hip-Hop grown, Science, History, Anthropology, Sociology nurtured and delivered with skill. For me he is one of the only people who can genuinely call themselves a performance poet.

He’s also the only person I’ve ever directly referenced in a piece. (near the end)

Told you I was on this diary thing.

See you in a bit. I want some sausages and a cup of tea

    Hi Steve,
Met you at the Shoreditch Festival last Sunday. As I said then, terrific stuff. Would love to see more on YouTube since I’m out of the country (Paris) and cant get to London gigs. Maybe the cat poem you did? Superb piece of writing and performance. This is where poetry is really happening: far from the Times Literary Supplement.
    Keep up the good work!
