OLD ME worked really well for what I intended and the bunch of artists I worked with were genuinely brilliant.

When I agreed to a two week run I hoped I’d get one night that felt bang on. I got two. That’s twice as good. Loved sharing it with everyone so if you made it down thanks for coming.

Interesting things that occurred creatively this year:

1. Idea, writing, development, collaboration, performance of a new feature length piece within 6 months.

2. Being asked to co-write the words for Akram Khan’s performance piece DESH

3. Stopped doing strictly spoken word sets of the same old short pieces

4. Berko came home

5. Two lots of my roundhouse students came good and proved to be much more interesting than a lot of the people getting paid to do spoken word

6. My oldest boy beat me in a kitchen battle rhyme off

Lots of thing ‘pending’ for 2012. One thing that is a certainty is that I will be sharing a new performance piece for anyone aged 10+ at The BAC Battersea Arts Centre in March.

It will be good.

Just ran out of steam. Need to get my self promotion internet stamina up in the new year.

No, there’s is no point having a website if you never update it or utilize it’s web spreading capacity. Guess I just struggle to get past my nan’s voice saying, “never beg a friend”.

There’s lots going on and perhaps it’s time to start telling people what I’m up to.

II’ve played here before and I can honestly say I was one of the best experiences of my performing career. The people are quality. If you live in or near bournemouth come down for a quality night of spoken word and the kind of atmosphere that properly fuels hunger for the form. Can’t recommend it enough.

The following tuesday, 12th I’m doing this

IIt’s been a while since me and Noisses did a thing with music and rhymes and this will be a lot of fun. It’s free too! Nuts. I’ll be doing a spoken word set, some tracks with Noisses on the decks and then he’ll play a DJ set to skank to. Most fun.

There’s some more gigs too. not least, two on the same day 1st may for Camden Crawl. More details coming soon.

Been a while since I’ve been this present on the live thing. Excited.

I went to Poland. Warsaw for two days then Krakow for two as part of the 8 year anniversary celebrations of Polish slam poetry all sorted out by the British Council and in particular, this guy

Fair to say I had a great time. Met some brilliant people, performed a few times, gave a talk in the Polish equivalent of Waterstones, ate some steak, gave a lecture at Warsaw Uni, drank some apple beer and talked a lot in quoted old Hip-Hop lyrics. It always makes me love what i do the most when I meet genuine people who are talented and basically cool. of course it’s all amplified to another level when you’ve got the backdrop of a European city you’ve never been to before.

I’ll definitely be keeping in touch with the guys I met and hopefully going back at some point. Until then, here’s something for Greg and Wjoiciech. “Colder than a Polar Bear’s toenail”…….

Pretty incredible. I’m getting drawn into a completely new world. To watch a story without words and yet still feel connected to it and drawn in is something pretty new for talky old me. Kind of refreshing. Yes I said it, refreshing. Today we’re working on using words and movement without detracting from either and it’s something I’m becoming fascinated by. Being a less is more type of person and constantly getting rid of words to the bare skeleton of something when all I’m doing is talking, I’m intrigued about how words can be used when the body can say so much.

This is a grown up post.

In keeping with that level of grownupnessism. My friends Rubix Collective have the first sharings of the beginning of their ‘Houseparty’ piece at Roundhouse Studio Theatre tomorrow at 4pm and 7pm. If you like spoken word and want to see it presented differently go see them. They’re good.

So I’m doing the Camden Crawl which is either a packed weekend of gigs from exciting people or my traditional family dance. maybe it’s both. I’m doing a spoken word gig in the afternoon with bang said the Gun and then a musical set in the evening somewhere else.
